SUMMARY:9th Liberalism Conference: Borders and Belonging in a Globalised World
DESCRIPTION:IDEAS’ 9th Liberalism Conference this year aims to be a space for understanding and dialogue with regard to statelessness, asylum-seekers and refugees.\nThis year’s theme, “𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱”, will discuss a variety of thematic issues related to the context of statelessness and refugees.\nUnlike previously, this year’s Conference is formatted differently where we host concurrent breakout sessions that will cover the topics of refugees and statelessness among families and children.\nHighlighted Videos:\nKeynote Address by Karima El Korri:\n\nPanel Discussion: \nInclusion and Dignity: Holistic Approaches to Statelessness, Refugee, and Displacement Challenges\nThis panel session, titled “Inclusion and Dignity: Holistic Approaches to Statelessness, Refugee, and Displacement Challenges” was joined by Dr Richard Marshall, Senior Economist, Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator (RCO) and Dr Aslam Abdul Jalil, Senior Lecturer, International Institute of Public Policy & Management, Universiti Malaya and moderated by the Acting CEO of IDEAS, Aira Azhari.\n\nBreakout Sessions:\nSession 1: Debunking refugee myths and stereotypes\n\n\nPortrayal of refugees by the media in Malaysia by Elroi Yee\n\n\nSocial cohesion should be a news value by Elroi Yee\n\n\nSense of belonging and feeling of alienation by Aunger Aung\n\n\nSession 2: Impact of statelessness on communities\n\n\nThe way forward to provide a safe space for stateless individuals\n\n\nMany dangers of the persistence of statelessness by Cikgu Rahayu\n\n\nHow is statelessness manufactured?
